Committee 2015/16

Meet the team!

Picture

Auditor Semester 1

Harry Economos
Harry is the co-supreme fearless leader of the society - or spelt phonetically,
 "Aw-dit-er".
"We set goals and make sure they're achieved by any means necessary. Duties include overseeing the society in general, shouting, failing to keep corruption to a minimum, telling everyone we meet that we're Auditors of Medsoc and being condescending . However most of our time goes towards making sure Caolan our mischievious PRO doesn't get up to too much trouble."
Harry's life motto is “Life isn't fair” and method of governance is inspired by the book 1984 by George Orwell.
Outside of medicine he is passionate about holding hands, long walks on beaches,
being emotionally available to you, crying single manly tears and Gigi Hadid.

Auditor Semester 2

Alison Duffy
Alison is the auditor for semester 2. Her  role is to co-ordinate, oversee and primarily lead our Medical Society. She is responsible for ensuring that the committee is implementing our societies vision and also achieving new objectives in Semester 2.
Alison is a native of Ballinasloe, the city that always sleeps. She has previous committee experience with NUIG's Dansoc, and hopes to use her expertise to make 2015/16 a truly great year for Medsoc.
Outside of Medicine Alison is passionate about Snapchat and Dancing.

Picture

Secretary

Christine Condon
Christine’s role as secretary is to keep our members informed regularly by email on the going ons of the society. She also books rooms for any events/meetings, takes notes at committee meetings, and keeps an eye on the emails.
A Corkonian with a green thumb, Christine is passionate about travel, trying new foods, finding good books and music. One song on the soundtrack to her life would be Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root. If Christine could be any fictional character it would be Hermione Granger.

Treasurer Sem 1

Conor Keady
Conor is this year’s treasurer for semester 1. As treasurer it is his responsibility to manage the accounts, decide who gets what and to be the third best Conor on the Medsoc committee. Outside of medicine, Conor's interests lie in being better and smarter than everyone else (yes, even you). Don't hold that against him though, his mad brainz mean that our books will be cooked to perfection throughout the year,

Treasurer Sem 2

Mary C Byrne
Mary 'Checks' Byrne is the treasurer for semester 2. Her role is to track down and manage the committees treasure. Think Pirates of the Caribbean but more exciting. Mary is an avid traditional musician and looks forward to making sure there is at least 70% Irish music played at every single Medsoc event.

Picture

Public Relations Officer

Caolan Coleman
Caolan is this years Facebook Officer, also known as PRO. His role includes operating the society's facebook and thinking of witty but PC captions for the society's new Instagram. He also helps with deciding what filters to use. Caolan is the father of this website, and sacrificed at least 10-15% of his summer grades by developing the site instead of studying. An interesting fact about Caolan is that he has 20 aunts and uncles on his mother’s side and isn't  traveller, just very fertile.
His life motto is “Don’t sweat petty stuff and don’t pet sweaty stuff”.
If he could meet any fictional character it would be Jesus.
Picture

Education Officer

Katie St. John
KSJ is Medsoc’s Education Officer. Her role is to get our school involved in educational events like intervarsity debates and competitions, along with organising various educational seminars and events here in NUIG; workshops, our own intervarsity competitions and Q&As with guest speakers. Her dream holiday would be a safari in Kenya, and if she could be any fictional character it would be Rafiki from The Lion King.
If she wasn’t in medicine she’d love to run a bakery café where people eat scones and do karaoke; she'd call it "Karaocake". She'd love to meet Audrey Hepburn if she could meet any person alive or dead .

Picture

Entertainment Officer

Amy Rolston
Our Ent’s Officer this year is the lovely Amy, her role as Entertainment officer is to be the overall fun-provider and to bring you fun and entertaining events. She is the main co-ordinator of big events such as Medball, Masquerade Ball as well as smaller ongoing nights like wine and cheese, pizza and movie nights, guest speaker nights and talks and many more!
Amy would’ve loved to have been a vet, she loves animals but is allergic to them! Her life motto is “No Ragrets” and she is most looking forward to launching some new ideas that will hopefully become annual events in the medsoc calendar, and generally taking over the world one event at a time. Her dream would be to be the 8th member of S Club 7, but if they weren’t willing to change their name she would like to be a mermaid.

Picture

Outreach Officer

Lorcán Ó Maoileanniagh
Lorcan is our Outreach Officer. His role is to organise charity events throughout the year. He's responsible for informing our members of our associated charities and to keep a working relationship with medically orientated charitable societies such as MSF, VSA, Sláinte Soc etc. His life motto is "just keep swimming" and the soundtrack to his life would include the Scrubs soundtrack

Picture

Sports Officer

Dara Jones
Dara is this year’s Sport’s Officer. An imposing figure from Roscommon, Dara is the proud owner of 14 Roscommon county hurling medals, which is apparently the equivalent of half a Galway hurling medal. His role is organising events of a sporty nature, and impressing the younger meds with his awesome ball handling skills. One song on the soundtrack to his life would be Africa by Toto.
Picture

Newsletter Editor

Conor Murphy
Conor is our Newsletter editor, keeping you updated with all the happenings of Medsoc. Upcoming events, interesting articles, you name it, you’ll see it in our newsletter! His life motto is "Don’t take life too seriously, do stupid things as often as you can". Outside of medicine he is passionate about music, food, swimming and generally just being gorgeous. His dream holiday is somewhere with huge sandy beaches, clear waters and a great night life. He says Westport would be grand too.
Picture

AMSI Representative

Aoife Cunningham
Aoife is one of MedSoc's AMSI representatives. Along with Kevin, she will work towards bringing the medical schools of Ireland together through some great events and trips. Aoife is a talented musician and amongst her duties this year will be to keep the MedSoc committee meetings merry with some lively jigs and reels.
Picture

AMSI Representative 2

Kevin McMahon
Kevin is the second of our AMSI representatives. He will represent NUIG on the board of AMSI, helping to coordinate and organise events with other medical schools and bring ourselves and our future colleagues closer together for nights out etc. His life motto is “college = banter”, and if he could be any fictional character it would be Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north, general of the felix legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Harry Economos.
Picture

Ordinary Commitee Member

Jenny Fitzgibbon
Jenny is an OCM on this year’s Medsoc Committee. She says the title says it all! She is an ordinary Joe Soap with no particular aspirations but plenty of enthusiasm, She helps everyone with whatever they need help with. She is everything, yet she is nothing. If she wasn’t a med student she would be an Interior Designer/Painter/Baker/General Creator of beautiful things. Her life motto is Valar Morghulis.
Picture

Ordinary Committee Member

Diarmaid Joyce
Diarmaid is an OCM, his role involves helping the real committee members where needed (so basically avoiding as much work as possible). If Diarmaid could go anywhere in the world he would go back to Yosemite NP in California because it’s klass. If Diarmaid wasn’t well on his way to being a doctor he would likely be a Pharmacist.
Picture

Alternate Member

Conor Costigan
Conor is one of our ACMs this year, which involves being around in semester 2 when the rest of the 4th meds head off on placement. He is the committee's sole 3rd med, and travelled to Nigeria in summer '15. Nigeria is an African nation on the Gulf of Guinea and Conor is A-frican awesome Alternate Member.
Picture

Alternate Member

Sonja Moore
Sonja is an ACM, which involves being around in semester 2 when most of the committee is away.  With Medsoc this year she is most looking forward to helping Caolan make the website as good as it can be, and being around to be the Queen Bee's little helper in semester 2!
