Committee 17/18

Meet the team!

Picture

Auditor Semester 1

James Morgan
El Capitano for Semester 1 is none other than James Morgan. Fresh back from the United States of America James is ready to make the coming semester one of the best yet. The County Louth native ran his first full marathon at age 6 and hasn't stopped running since. This isn't his first experience of leading a team, at age 10 James led a group of his friends to a gold medal in the Community Games in Olympic Handball. James still carries the medal around and will happily show it to you if you ask. His favourite food is in his own words a " Big Juicy Shteak" and we have no doubt that this beefcake is the right man to lead Medsoc forward this 1st semester.

Auditor Semester 2

Killian Dervan
Killian is our Co-auditor, the head honcho for semester 2. He was our PRO last year so he knows his way around this society and club stuff, we're sure he's planning some secret medsoc snow-based party.. He will also be planning and organising for much more, keeping the society going, delegating to the max. He's currently living it up in Castlebar, praying for a Mayo all Ireland, Mayo for Sam painted all over his walls. Dancing away to some great 90s tunes, (if you look closely you might catch the elusive worm) he's the right man to lead us forward in second semester. His biggest fear turning into a doughnut because he'd eat himself, he wouldn't even think about it.

Secretary

Dorarca Lynch
Dorarca; or Dora as she's better known; was raised in Kildare, but more often than not she's found exploring Kerry, wearing Kerry jerseys, and singing Kerry for Sam wherever she can. She's never far away from a can of bulmers, and multitasking is one of her key attributes, percussing and socialising all in one as seen above. Her favourite quote is "what's meant for you won't pass you," prophetic stuff.  A unique talent Dorarca has is that you can quote one line from Fair City and she will tell you what happened in the episode, impressive! Make sure to try it next time you see her! She's our secretary for the year, so she'll be flat out keeping notes and trying to make sure that the entire committee meet in person at least once!

Treasurer Sem 1

Dearbhla Edwards-Murphy
Dearbhla is our treasurer for semester 1, working hand in hand win our Captain Morgan, to make sure he doesn't blow all our money. She ultimately decides who gets what, so she's everyone's best friend in medsoc, divvying up funds left, right, and centre! Her aim is to restart her political career after a devastating loss of the class captain seat in 3rd Class by a whopping 80% of the vote! She loves farming, farmers, and telling people she's from West Clare.

Picture

Treasurer Sem 2

Cian Harte
Cian Harte is our semester 2 treasurer. He's a good Galway man, hailing from Oughterard no less, a footballer more than a hurler, so a bit further away from an All Ireland, but still close enough for yearly heartbreak. You'd have to feel for him. A pint of plain is his only man. His main aim is to keep Killian Dervan from going crazy with power, trying to balance the accounts, and making sure we can get you guys some great free stuff!

Public Relations Officer

Conor Devlin
Fresh off the high of overcoming his fear of talking to women, Conor Devlin (known also as CP or Brock James)  is this years PRO.  Conor is a keen rugby player and lives by the phrase "All one needs in life is love of God and quick ruck ball". Conor's favourite rugby player is Matt Davey. Conor will be in charge of running the various social media accounts and website without offending anyone, a task he said he won't take lightly. Conor's interests include romantic comedies, grime music and photoshopping Lionel Richie's face into various different photos. Conor is pictured here preparing to take his dog Rocky for a walk.
Picture

Education Officer

Peggy Miller
Peggy is our education officer. Known as Pegs to her friends, Peggy is one of the proudest Laois women you will come across in NUIG. Her passions include Sheep, the music of Celine Dion and tea with chats. Peggy's claim to fame is she was in the Alive-O choir as a child. Remember Circle of Friends, that was Pegs. As Education Officer Peggy will act as an advocate of students in relation to academic activities, will provide support to students and organise information evenings to help you get the most of your degree.

Picture

Entertainment Officer

Alice Hegarty
Alice is our entertainment officer for the year, or ENTS (because it needed a cooler name). She's responsible for spearheading our events; Medball, Masquerade ball, and all our smaller events too! She loves a great night out, you'd often find her in electric, but she's since migrated up to Westport! She's the queen of sass, but she's sweet at heart, she once took a stray dog in for a week, and named it Baby, so she's most definitely our committee's mummy!

Picture

Outreach Officer

Aisling Gallagher
Aisling is our Outreach Officer.
Her role is to organise charity events throughout the year. She's responsible for informing our members of our associated charities and to keep a working relationship with medically orientated charitable societies such as MSF, VSA, Sláinte Soc etc.
Aisling is a very talented baker and was on Roscommons version of the Great British Bake Off. Highlights on RTE Player. Her favourite subject is Biochemistry.

Picture

Sports Officer

Gavin Calpin
The Sports Officer position stays in Sligo this year with Gavin Calpin taking over. A lover of all things Gaelic Football Gavin hopes to get Medicine moving this year. Gavin spent the summer in Chicago and asks anyone who was there did they see his Sligo jersey, it went missing from his apartment and he misses it dearly. His favourite song is One Last Time by Ariana Grande and he wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

Newsletter Editor

Hannah Kielty
Hannah Kielty is editing our newsletter this year. She'll be letting you guys glimpse the inner workings of our super society, what's coming up, some interesting articles, and maybe even some dank memes and embarrassing photos. Hannah may be the most educated medical student currently in NUIG. Having completing an extra year in primary school known to Hannah as "middle infants", known to everyone else as "held back". Make from that what you will. The additional year of phonetics make her an extremely qualified Newsletter Editor.

 AMSI Representative 1

Rosie James
Rosie James is our AMSI Rep number 1, and what an AMSI Rep number 1 she is. If there was an award for the smiliest person in NUIG, Rosie would win by a country mile. Rosie has spent the summer in Copenhagen with the WHO and is excited to tackle the year ahead with Medsoc.  Rosie will be in charge of working with other medical schools in Ireland and organising fun events for us all.  If you have any questions about Dean Athru please ask Rosie, she will know the answer.
Picture

AMSI Representative 2

Alie Fahey
Alie is the other half of our AMSI team.
Like Rosie, she will work towards bringing the medical schools of Ireland together through some great events and trips.
Aside from this, she’s the team’s  other Mammy!
She describes herself as old beyond her years and if she could be any fictional character she would be Minerva McGonagall (what a boss!).
A perfect date with this Galway gal? Walking the prom and eating chips from McDonaghs.

Ordinary Commitee Member

Aedin O'Keefe
The title should be extraordinary Committee Member for our OCM this year Aedin. Aedin was a member of the committee last year and hopes to make it an even better year than last year. Her job is helping out whoever needs help in Medsoc and making Medsoc work on a daily basis. Aedin is a big fan of hats and throws renowned hat parties every year, get on her good side and you might get an invite. Call her Denosaur for extra brownie points

Pre-Clinical Rep

Sarah Murphy
Your Pre-Clinical Representative this year is none other than Sarah Murphy. Sarah will work to make sure all pre-clinical years keep up to date with whats going on in Medsoc and help organise events to help them get to know one another. A fun fact about Sarah is that she knows every capital of every European country and their most famous monument. She can also play Avicii - Levels on the tinwhistle.
